Lucas's First Doctor's Appointment

My hubby and I took Lucas for his first doctor's appointment yesterday. Lucas is now 8.5 pounds and 21 inches. Yup. He's got the Harrison appetite. Lucas did really well at his appointment. I was worried that he'd get fussy. But, instead he stayed awake, alert and quiet. He enjoyed looking into the large mirror next to the exam table. The pediatrician gave Lucas a clean bill of health...music to this mother's ears!

first weekend @ home

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, the Harrison's have returned to their humble abode!

It feels wonderful to be back in my own home. For the past two weeks, we have been staying at Dadi and Dada's house recuperating and adjusting. Words can not express how grateful I am to have such amazing in-laws. From the moment my husband and I brought Lucas home from the hospital, they have been there for us. Lucas is a lucky little boy to have such loving Grandparents! Their love, support and encouraging words come directly from the heart and for that I am eternally grateful.

Friday night I gave Lucas a bath in his new tub. This was the first time I bathed Lucas by myself. At Dadi's house we bathed Lucas in the sink. Sink bathing scared (scares) me. I had a hard time keeping him in an upright position, away from the edge of the sink and the faucet. However, now that we are at home I was able to bust out the baby tub that I got at my shower. The tub has a handy newborn sling that makes bathing easy. The sling supports and cradles his head, while allowing him to rest comfortably and safely. As Lucas grows the sling can be adjusted and removed to make more room. I feel 100 % comfortable with bathing Lucas by myself. A clean baby is a happy baby! And a sleepy baby. Lucas sleeps so much better after his bath.
Confession time. Is it wrong of me to be counting down the days until my son reaches three months? Sunday was a fussy day. Lucas was colicky and didn't want to sleep at all. Sometime during the afternoon I finally reached the breaking point where I could not even enjoy spending time with my husband and son. My body craved sleep, my head was pounding and my heart was heavy. I am not so naive to think that having a newborn was going to be easy. However, a small part of me was hoping that overnight I'd magically transform into a super-mom. I'd have all the answers, I'd know exactly what to do to comfort my son, my apartment would be clean and well organized, I'd have a delicious dinner prepared on time for my family and I'd still have time style my hair and look fabulous. Yea. Such lofty ideas. lol.

Theodore Roosevelt said "Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain or difficulty..." I love my son and I love my new role as a Mommy. It's not going to be easy. And that is ok. I will take one day at a time and remind myself to enjoy this time in Lucas's life. He's not going to stay a little cute newborn forever. :)

Lucas David Harrison

I'm excited to announce the birth of our son - Lucas David Harrison. He was born on April 24th, at 8:34 am. He weighed 6 lb 13.7 oz, and was 19.5 inches long. He is adorable, with ten perfect little fingers and ten perfect little toes. He has his father's lips and nose!

Overall, the labor and delivery experience wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be. My water broke at 11:33 pm Monday night. I was afraid of going to the hospital to early, resulting in being sent back home, so I took a shower, had a small snack and made the final preparations. My wonderful husband called labor and delivery and we were instructed to come in. We arrived around midnight. I grinned and beared the pain until it became to much than I asked for my epidural. I was able to sleep through most of the early stages of labor. Hours later I was ready and after about 30 minutes of pushing Lucas was born. :)

More to come...

House Hunting

I've decided that house hunting is a daunting task.  My husband and I are on a budget, which prevents us from purchasing the home of our dreams. This I have accepted, and am ok with. Waiting for the ultimate dream house will give me a better idea of what I exactly want and what will fit my needs and the needs of my family. I started my search back in November. Nothing to serious just pursuing through various web sites (zillow.com, redfin.com and prudential.com). I quickly learned that although zillow.com is a good place to start, redfin.com gives more information regarding sale status. It is now April and we still haven't actually gone to look at a single home. To our credit, we did attempt to schedule tours, however either the house turned out to be on a short sale or unavailable. Inexpensive, well maintained homes sale fast...who would have thought?

Purchasing a home this early in our married life was not in the original plan. Plans change. That's life! Up until now we have been renting an apartment. I love my apartment. It's small. But compared to living in an university dormitory, it feels like a mansion! My biggest regret is that I never got to decorate the apartment. I did hang pictures, and some art on the walls, however I wish that I could have done more. The idea of taking everything down just to pack it up again seemed pointless and I hate packing.

Apartment living has given me a better idea of what I want in a home. I've discovered that more closet and storage space, along with an actual pantry are high on my list of priorities. My little walk-in-closet is stuffed to the brim with clothing, baby stuff, extra blankets, shoes and other random objects. For my husband, I'd love to give him his own office space. Currently, his office is technically the dinning room. I hate his office furniture...it's so ugly! I can't wait to replace it with something a little more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
I've learned that ventilation is important. I can't stand stuffy rooms. And I don't like ceramic tile floors.

Location is key. I have a mental map of yes, no and maybe neighborhoods. The "no" neighborhood list seemed to be getting bigger each day. I am picky, but hey..if I have to live in a particular neighborhood for the next ten to fifteen years I'd better like it and feel comfortable living in it.

What will be, will be. I pray that we find the right home soon, and that I have the patience to keeping looking.
