Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson

Alloy of Law = A steampunk Mistborn Western.....

Three hundred years after the events in "The Hero of Ages," the world of Scadrial has undergone many changes. Horseless carriages and trains are replacing the old ways of travel, electric lights light up the homes of the wealthy and the very first skyscrapers are being built.

Keliser, Vin, Elend, Sazed and the rest of the old gang, are now part of history. However, Sanderson did manage to incorporate their characters in this story. Elendel is now the capital of Scadrial, Sazed is a god and Spook's weird street dialect is now regarded as high imperial. Sadly, Vin is hardly mentioned.

This book was a fun and easy read. The characters are straightforward and uncomplicated. The readers know who the good guys and and who the bad guys are. However the ending felt tacked on as a last minute decision in order to lengthen the story and make room for a sequel. Other than that I did enjoy the story and most likely will continue to read part two of Alloy of Law.

Hiking Mt. Rubidoux

Right around the new year, I made the resolution to go hiking more. Living in beautiful sunny Southern California with our fantastic mild winters and trails, opportunities for hiking are endless. This mornings adventure involved Lucas, myself and Muncle. It was a bit warm this morning, and about half way up the trail Muncle and I switch pushing the stroller. Thank goodness, 'cause my legs were burning.

At the top of the trail, Lucas got out and explored the area. He climbed rocks and watched air-planes land and take off at a nearby airport. After our long hike, and a snack break in the car Lucas was ready for his nap! It was the perfect ending to our little adventure.
