handmade summer dress + ice cream social at the Heritage House

I finished this little sun dress just in time for summer's 100+ degree weather. This dress is my first attempt to make something for myself. It was a struggle at times. I ended up going to an Auntie's house for help with the blouse. I knew that I could muddle my way through, but having someone explain and show me what went wrong was helpful. I'm happy with how this dress turned out and I'm looking forward to sewing more.

I wore this dress to the Heritage House ice cream social. The weather was a lovely 112 degrees, but with the breeze and large shade trees it was bearable. I have been wanting to tour this beautiful Victorian home, and thought that attending the ice cream social would be the perfect opportunity to check out something unique to my community.

The house is beautiful. Everything has been well maintained, the docents were entertaining and knowledgeable. I wish that we had been allowed to go upstairs, however the second and third floors were off limits due to the heat. When the house opens again in the fall I definitely want to explore the rest of the house.

Lucas wasn't thrilled to be out in the heat...or at a museum. However,  a bowel of chocolate ice cream did improve his mood.... a little. The Heritage House offered activities for kids- face painting (he didn't want to do that), games (he asked to go home), ice cream (he did say yes to ice cream), orange tasting from Citrus Park (nope, it wasn't orange juice...although I tried an orange and it was delicious) and recruitment into the Continental army. Lucas did "enlist" and actually enjoyed it.

Fulmer Family Photo shoot

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you are all suffering (in a good way) from turkey comas and an overstuffing of pumpkin pie. Last Sabbath, I did a photo shoot for some good friends of ours. My husband has been friends with Bob since elementary school and I met Allison in high school. This fun loving couple wanted updated pictures and I was happy to oblige.

A big shout out to my sweet husband for editing for me. 😊

wild animal park recap

We love having annual passes for the Safari Park! It is a wonderful way to get outside, see animals in their "natural" habitat and to spend time together as a family. This was Alara's first visit to the park and Lucas's first visit without using the stroller. Both kids did well. Lucas enjoyed walking around and Alara preferred riding on daddy's shoulders.

four months

Four Months:

  • Alara is such a busy girl! She is wiggling and squirming all around her play mat. If I set her down on her back within seconds she's rolled over and moving about.
  • She is taking interest in toys. Her two favorite toys are Sophie the giraffe and this other giraffe that she received as a baby shower gift.
  • She is sleeping through the night..with a few exceptions here and there.
  • She is starting to outgrow her smaller 3 month clothing.
  • She loves to be held forward facing. The world is an interesting place!
  • Her giggles are adorable!
  • Her feet are ticklish!
  • She does not enjoy long car trip. Anything over twenty minutes and she will cry. On family trips I usually will sit in the back seat with her..sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't. Lucas has started to cover his ears when she cries.
  • She smiles at most people...family, friends and some strangers...usually grandmas....
  • Her relationship with Daddy has improved greatly!

it's fall ya'll

Happy Sabbath and Happy Fall!

While my husband was away playing bass guitar for a friend's Hawaiian band; Lucas, Dadi and Dada, and I took a trip to the Irvine Park Zoo and pumpkin patch. Between September 20th  and October 31st, the area behind the train station is transformed into a festive pumpkin patch with many family friendly activities.  Lucas had a blast running through the hay bale mazes, searching for the biggest and brightest pumpkin to sit on, munching on delicious banana bread and sticking his head through the wooden cutouts.

I was so proud of Lucas for getting on the pony. Several months ago I tried to introduce Lucas to horseback riding and he cried the whole time. However, this time he happily rode Ginger and didn't want to get off when his turn was over.

And of course the day wasn't complete until we walked around the zoo, groomed some goats and checked out an owl with upside down and backwards binoculars.

photoshoot

On a hot muggy afternoon, I took my friend Allison out near my parent's home for a Guild Wars Cosplay photo shoot. This was my first Cosplay photo shoot and it was a lot of fun. Allison is a fantastic seamstress and a beautiful model. The amount of detail put into this costume is stunning. I'm in love with the green fabric used on the blouse, and leather corset. The natural hills of Southern California make a perfect background for the Guild Wars universe.
